Biography

Edward McArdle is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Bioethics Humanities Center, Bioethics State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He serves as an ethics consultant for the hospital’s ethics consultation service, teaching medical ethics to medical health professions students. Before joining SUNY Upstate, he spent years as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Attorney General's Office, representing various state agencies in litigation and handling a wide variety of legal matters related to patient treatment disputes, guardianship, and safe discharge. At Cornell, Mr. McArdle teaches courses on the powers and duties of the office of the state attorney general and hospital mediation of ethical dilemmas in clinical health care. His research interests include medical treatment decision-making at the end of life, dispute resolution in hospital settings, disability rights, and patient advocacy.
