Dr. Edward Parson

Biography

Edward (Ted) Parson is the Dan Rae Emmett Professor of Environmental Law and Faculty Director of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the University of California, Los Angeles. He specializes in international environmental law and policy, societal impacts of governance, and the regulation of disruptive technologies, including geoengineering and artificial intelligence. Parson leads the AI Pulse program at UCLA Law, which organizes events such as the 2019 Summer Institute on AI and Society. His scholarly work has appeared in top scientific journals including Science, Nature, and Climatic Change, addressing key issues related to climate policy and governance. He has authored important books in the field, such as 'Science Politics Global Climate Change' and 'Subtle Balance: Evidence, Expertise, Democracy in Public Policy Governance'. In addition to his academic role, Parson has served on advisory committees for various national and international organizations, contributing to policy development on climate change, regulation, and environmental governance. He holds degrees in physics and management science and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard University, where he has spent twelve years as a faculty member.
