Biography

Edward Roberts is a professor in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemical Engineering (1987), a Master of Engineering (1996), and a Doctorate in Philosophy in Chemical Engineering (1992) from the University of Cambridge. Before joining the University of Calgary in 2012, he was a professor at the University of Manchester where he was also the founder of Arvia Technology Ltd. Edward’s research focuses on electrochemical technology, specifically in the areas of electrochemical processes for water treatment, batteries, and fuel cells. He leads a research group dedicated to clean technologies in energy storage and conversion, exploring innovative materials and synthesis methods, particularly involving graphene. His work has received numerous awards including the IChemE Water Innovation Award and the IET Innovation Award. He has published over 75 papers in international journals and holds 22 granted patents. His current projects include the CREATE Program in Materials for Electrochemical Energy Solutions, where he collaborates with other faculty members to enhance the performance and sustainability of energy conversion and storage technologies.
