Biography

Edwin Kolbe is a lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Basel. He completed his studies in Physics and Mathematics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster from 1982 to 1988, earning a diploma in Physics. He received his PhD in theoretical Physics from the same institution in 1992. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a research fellow at the Kellogg Radiation Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology from 1993 to 1994. Kolbe attained the status of Privat-Dozent through his Habilitation in Physics at the University of Basel in 1999. His professional experience includes serving as a project manager at Nagra from 2001 to 2005 and as a research associate at the Laboratory for Reactor Physics Systems Behaviour at the Paul Scherrer Institute until 2011. Furthermore, he held positions as a Nuclear Engineer and Head section Reactor at the Axpo NPP Beznau between 2012 and 2015. His research interests focus on Theoretical Nuclear Physics, particularly the description of nuclear reactions using microscopic models and statistical models. He has made contributions to scattering reactions relevant to Neutrino Astrophysics and engaged in climate research through computer-based analysis of Earthshine observations. Additionally, his work includes criticality safety calculations and burnup calculations in Reactor Physics.
