Dr. Edwin Pos

Biography

Edwin Pos is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University specializing in Ecology and Biodiversity. With over 150 years of ecological research behind him, he focuses on understanding ecosystem functions and the challenges posed by climate change. His research aims to develop theoretical and empirical approaches to quantify ecosystem dynamics and identify the rules governing ecological communities over space and time. Pos employs a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating general ecology, evolution, information theory, physics, and mathematics to expand ecological methodologies for quantitative studies. His specific interests include the intersection of information theory with empirical evolutionary ecology, utilizing chaos theory to unravel the processes influencing species distributions. In addition to his research activities, he is deeply involved in teaching, primarily focusing on undergraduate courses in evolution and ecology. He coordinates a study track in Evolution Biodiversity and serves on the educational advisory board of the Biology department. Pos is also engaged in international collaborations on large-scale data networks, contributing to significant ecological research initiatives.
