Biography

Edwina Hagen is an Assistant Professor of Cultural History at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is an active historical researcher and supervises a small number of undergraduate and master's theses each year. With years of experience in educational management and university lecturing, her work is focused on current educational issues, internationalization, and innovative teaching methods. She completed the Educational Leadership Programme at the Centre for Academic Teaching at Utrecht University. Her research interests include New Diplomatic History, Political and Court Culture from a gender perspective, reputation politics, and the interplay of culture and power within the Dutch political sphere during the revolutionary period of 1770-1815. She utilizes a qualitative biographical approach, drawing from a variety of historical sources, including personal letters and political print culture. Hagen's scholarly contributions include edited volumes and articles in peer-reviewed journals on topics of gender history, character assassination, and emotional self-fashioning. Her work has received national recognition and led to nominations for prestigious awards in the field.
