Biography

Effie Assan joined Professor Ewan Macdonald's team in the Healthy Working Lives Group as a Research Assistant in March 2024. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Psychology at the University of St. Andrews, where she has made significant progress in her fourth year of study. Effie's academic background includes an MSc in Psychology (Conversion) from the University of St. Andrews in 2018 and a BSc in Management from the University of Manchester in 2014. She has gained valuable experience as a Research Assistant with the Healthy Working Lives Group at the University of Glasgow and has been involved in project support related to Long COVID with NHS National Services Scotland. Her teaching experience as a tutor in Cognitive Psychology and Emotional Disorders at the University of St. Andrews complements her research endeavors. Additionally, Effie served as a project support manager for COVID vaccination initiatives and supervised projects addressing wellbeing, loneliness, and social isolation for Age Concern. Her research interests focus on understanding and improving the social, psychological, and cognitive outcomes for older adults aged 60 and above, addressing issues related to mental health, wellbeing, cognitive function, loneliness, social isolation, and the impact of the pandemic.
