Efstathios (Stathis) Giotis is a Research Fellow who graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Aristotle University, Greece in 2001. He obtained his MSc in Biotechnology in 2002 and completed his PhD in Microbiology in 2006 at Ulster Illinois State Universities. In 2009, he began working on various research projects both in the UK and abroad, gaining extensive experience in research involving animal infection models, zoonotic bacteria, and viruses. His research focuses on the interface of human-animal health, utilizing transcriptomics technologies to address scientific questions. Since joining Imperial College London in 2012, his expertise has centered on three overlapping themes: the molecular basis of pathogenesis, host range restrictions, and the immunomodulatory abilities of avian and bat-borne viruses. He is particularly fascinated by the remarkable variation in tropisms and the potential clinical outcomes that flaviviruses can exhibit despite their high degrees of genomic similarity.
