Biography

Professor Ehud Altman received his Ph.D. from the Technion, Haifa in 2002. After serving as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, he joined the Weizmann Institute of Science as a Yigal Alon Fellow in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011. He was awarded the Young Investigator Prize by the Israel Physical Society and the Krill Prize from the Wolf Foundation in 2010. In the academic year 2012-2013, he served as a Miller Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley, where he joined the Physics Department as a full professor in the summer of 2016. His research focuses on condensed matter theory, particularly the many-body aspects of ultra-cold atomic systems and quantum information theory. He investigates quantum matter, the interactions of quantum entanglement, and how these factors lead to unexpected emergent properties. His recent work includes studying many-body localization, thermalization in quantum systems, and the emergent behavior of non-equilibrium systems. He collaborates closely with experimental groups using ultra-cold atom systems to explore fascinating quantum phenomena.
