Biography

Eiko Yoneki is a senior researcher leading the group ‘Data Centric Systems’ within the Systems Research Group at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge. Prior to his academic career, he worked at IBM in Japan, Italy, and the UK, where he received the highest Technical Award. His research interests span distributed systems, networking, databases, and large-scale graph processing. Currently, his research focuses on the auto-tuning of data processing and analytics frameworks to address complex parameter spaces using machine learning approaches, facilitating efficient parallel processing, scheduling, and load balancing. He is involved in projects in African and South American countries pertaining to ‘digital epidemiology’, where he explores human interactions in rural societies through the application of wireless and sensing technologies, and advanced modeling of infectious disease spread. Additionally, he works on advancements that support farmers in the early detection of crop pests and diseases through sensing and image analysis techniques using machine learning.
