Dr. Eileen Cowan

Biography

Eileen Cowan, MD, is an Associate Professor and the Associate Director of Pre-Clinical Pediatric Education at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. With a robust background in Pediatrics, Cowan completed her MD at Loyola University Chicago and her Residency in Pediatrics at the University of Michigan. Additionally, she pursued a Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Harvard University’s Boston Children’s Hospital. As a neonatologist, she focuses on enhancing patient outcomes through the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and supports families while aiming to improve trainee competency in clinical care. Cowan is actively involved in integrating pediatric content into the medical curriculum, fostering student interest in pediatrics. She is also a representative on the Council of Faculty Academic Societies through the Association of American Medical Colleges. Her research interests include medical education, with a specific focus on POCUS in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), enhancing resident competency in essential neonatal procedures, and investigating gender parity within American academic medical centers.
