Biography

Eileen Gentleman is a Professor and Academic Lead at the Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology at King's College London. She joined Imperial College London in 2005 as a post-doctoral research associate in the Stevens Group, after completing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University, USA. In 2011, she was awarded the Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowship and moved to King's College. Her research focuses on developing biomaterials that modulate physical and biological properties for 3D cell niche control, stem cell differentiation, tissue engineering, and disease modeling. Eileen's work has been published in high-impact journals such as Nature Materials, Nature Biomedical Engineering, PNAS, and Biomaterials. Over her career, she has received numerous funding awards from research bodies including the Wellcome Trust, MRC, Rosetrees Trust, Royal Society, and Orthopaedic Research UK. In 2016, she was a recipient of the Wellcome Image Award and the MIT Koch Institute Image Award. Eileen was recognized as a finalist for the Orthopaedic Research Society's New Investigator Recognition Award in 2010 and won the prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2013 for her work in regenerative medicine. Her laboratory, the Gentleman Lab, works at the interface of stem cell biology and materials science to develop innovative biomaterials for regenerative medicine.
