Dr. Eileen Shore

Biography

Eileen M. Shore, Ph.D., is the Cali Weldon Research Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the genetic regulation of cell differentiation and tissue development, particularly in relation to rare human genetic diseases and extra-skeletal bone formation. Shore has a longstanding interest in fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) and progressive osseous heteroplasia (POH), both characterized by ectopic bone formation. She has identified crucial genetic mutations affecting BMP signaling pathways and their role in osteogenesis and chondrogenesis. Shore's work includes the development of in vitro and in vivo models to understand these diseases and to explore potential therapeutic strategies. Her research is closely tied to clinical observations, advancing from basic research to translational applications. She collaborates with various experts and leads a team of graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and lab personnel in her investigations.
