Dr. Eileen Trauth

Biography

Eileen M. Trauth is a Professor Emerita at Penn State University's College of Information Sciences and Technology. Her research focused on the societal, cultural, and organizational influences on information technology and its professions, with a particular emphasis on diversity and social inclusion. In 2008, she held the University of Klagenfurt Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Gender Studies, where she lectured and investigated gender underrepresentation in information technology professions across multiple countries, including Austria, Australia, and the United States. Trauth was a Fulbright Scholar recipient, exploring socio-cultural influences on the emergence of Ireland’s information economy. Her work has analyzed the cultural, economic, and policy factors affecting the development of information technology sectors in various locations such as the Netherlands and Egypt. Over her career, she has received grants from prestigious organizations like the Fulbright Foundation and the National Science Foundation, and has published nine books and over 100 scholarly papers focusing on gender, social inclusion, qualitative research methods, critical theory, and global informatics.
