Biography

El Hadi Jazairy is a Professor of Architecture and the Director of the Master of Urban Design program at the University of Michigan. He is a founding partner of the practice DESIGN EARTH, collaborating with Rania Ghosn. His research focuses on aesthetic forms of environmental engagement and visualizing urban systems to transform the Earth. DESIGN EARTH has exhibited in prominent venues such as the Venice Architecture Biennale and has works in the Museum of Modern Art collection. Jazairy has received various international awards, including the Architectural League of New York’s Prize for Young Architects and Designers and the Jacques Rougerie Foundation’s Prize. He has co-authored notable books, including 'Geostories: Architecture and Environment' and 'Geographies of Trash'. He helped establish New Geographies and served as editor-in-chief of NG 4: Scales of Earth. His recent writings have appeared in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Architectural Education and Harvard Design Magazine. Jazairy holds a Doctorate of Design from Harvard University, a Master of Architecture from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from La Cambre in Brussels.
