Biography

Elaine Dewhurst is a Senior Lecturer in Employment Law at the University of Manchester. She acquired her BCL degree with first class honours in 2004 from University College Cork and completed her PhD in 2009 at the same institution, funded by the E.J. Phelan Fellowship in International Law. After her doctorate, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich and was involved in various research projects concerning employment, equality, and immigration law. Her research interests primarily focus on employment law, examining age discrimination and the legal protection of employment rights, particularly in relation to irregular immigrants. Elaine has been actively engaged in collaborative research on societal issues, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and has served on several steering committees and academic networks. She is also a member of the Fairness at Work Research Group and has held visiting lecturer positions in various international institutions. Elaine's contributions to the field have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Butterworths Law Prize and the Gerard O'Keefe Prize in Tort Law.
