Biography

Elaine Rushing is a Lecturer at UC Berkeley Law with extensive experience in arbitration and mediation. Appointed to the Sonoma County Superior Court, Judge Rushing served for decades before retiring, during which she spearheaded a successful Mediation Program that mediated over 1,000 cases. She was elected as the presiding judge by her colleagues and recognized by the Sonoma County Bar Association for her contributions to Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2010. In addition to her judicial duties, she is a full-time mediator and arbitrator at JAMS, focusing on various complex practice areas including business litigation, construction, employment, real estate, trusts, estates, probate, and personal injury. Judge Rushing is also a faculty member of the Continuing Judicial Studies Program, teaching Law Literature to Probate Judges. She earned her Juris Doctor from UC Hastings College of the Law, where she was recognized as a member of the Order of the Coif and served as the Research Editor for the Hastings Law Journal. Her undergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Arts from Syracuse University, where she was a Phi Beta Kappa honoree in German. Elaine Rushing is actively involved in education and continues to teach law courses.
