Biography

Elaine Stashinko's clinical practice research focuses on child health nursing, particularly the epidemiology of brain injury, health-related quality of life, and treatment of movement disorders in children with cerebral palsy. She is part of the Carter Center for Brain Research in Holoprosencephaly and Related Malformations and collaborates with a national network of researchers studying holoprosencephaly (HPE), a rare brain malformation that can cause cerebral palsy. Her work includes identifying genetic and environmental risk factors, neuroimaging characteristics, and clinical management for children with HPE. Dr. Stashinko has experience teaching in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and has previously worked in the Neurology Department at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, as well as serving as the director of nursing research at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She has also served for a decade on the Johns Hopkins Medicine Institutional Review Boards, bringing specific expertise in research administration and federal regulatory requirements involving human subjects. Furthermore, she co-chairs the SON Project Ethical Review Committee (PERC), which supports DNP students in preparing their scholarly project submissions.
