Biography

Elaine Xie is an Assistant Professor in Family Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She joined the Discipline of Family Medicine in September 2022 and is currently based at the Family Practice Unit in St. John’s. Dr. Xie has a clinical practice that includes low-risk obstetrics as part of the Family Center Maternity Care team, inner city medicine through Choices Youth, and full-spectrum family medicine at the Family Practice Unit. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology at McGill University from 2009 to 2013, followed by her medical training at Queen’s Medical School from 2013 to 2017. Dr. Xie completed her family medicine residency at Michael Garron Hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, from 2017 to 2019, and went on to complete a fellowship in low-risk obstetrics at Scarborough General Hospital and in Adolescent Medicine at the University of Toronto from 2019 to 2020. In her role, Elaine currently serves as the Team 2 clinical lead for the MUN Family Practice Unit, is a member of the Curriculum committee for the Family Medicine Residency Program, and is involved in Family Medicine admissions and the Care for Underserved PGY3 program. She works closely with both undergraduate and post-graduate learners and enjoys teaching clinical skills to undergraduate medical students. Her clinical interests, which are well-reflected in her practice, include newborn and maternity care, vulnerable populations, and adolescent medicine.
