Dr. Elaine Zackai

Biography

Elaine H. Zackai, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Genetics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and a faculty member at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her research has significantly advanced the understanding of genetic syndromes, particularly in the areas of pediatric genetics and clinical cytogenetics. She completed her BA in biology in 1964 and her MD in 1968 from New York University. Zackai continued her medical training with a pediatric internship and residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, respectively, followed by a fellowship in medical genetics at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Yale University. She is a board-certified clinical geneticist with a keen interest in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and other genetic disorders. Her extensive publications reflect pivotal studies regarding the genetic basis and clinical implications of various syndromes, making her a leading figure in the field. She actively participates in multidisciplinary collaborations to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for affected patients.
