Biography

Elayne Whyte is a Professor of Practice at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), with over 25 years of experience in policy-making, diplomacy, and international cooperation. She has held various significant roles, including serving as Costa Rica's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2002, and from 2014 to 2020, she was the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations in Geneva. Notably, she presided over the United Nations Conference that negotiated the Treaty Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in 2017. She holds a Master's Degree in International Policy Studies and has received an Honorary Doctorate for her contributions to global governance and peace.
