Biography

Eleanor Leigh is an Associate Professor at the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. She is also a Clinical Psychologist and holds a position as an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellow. Her work focuses on improving the understanding and treatment of common mental health problems in adolescence, with a particular emphasis on cognitive-behavioral approaches. She employs a wide range of methods, including experimental prospective methods, meta-analysis, and clinical trial designs. Eleanor’s current research investigates cognitive behavioral mechanisms in adolescent anxiety, the effectiveness of psychological therapies for social anxiety disorder in adolescents, and the role of digital therapy in improving access to treatment. Additionally, she studies how social anxiety impacts academic performance and how peer environments influence anxiety during adolescence. Dr. Leigh leads projects at the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre that aim to understand, measure, and modify mechanisms underpinning mental health issues in children and young people. She has previously worked as a Clinical Psychologist within National and Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at the Maudsley Hospital in London. Besides her research, she is heavily involved in teaching and trains clinicians through various national training courses, including the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
