Biography

Eleanor Stride is a full Professor in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. She specializes in biomaterials and the fabrication of nano and microscale devices for targeted drug delivery. Eleanor obtained her BEng and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University College London, where her research focused on ultrasonics. In 2005, she was appointed a lectureship and subsequently received a Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship. Her research has significantly advanced the fields of micro and nanoencapsulation, including the development of novel methods for creating bubbles, capsules, and layered structures for a range of biomedical applications. Eleanor's notable collaborations include working with Professor Mohan Edirisinghe and Professor Bonfield, leading to the establishment of a spin-out company, AtoCap Ltd. Her research includes the localization of drug delivery and the development of ultrasound-responsive particles. In addition to her academic contributions, Eleanor has over 130 refereed journal publications and has presented at more than 100 conferences. She has received various prestigious awards, including the Philip Leverhulme Prize and the 2013 Bruce Lindsay Award from the Acoustical Society of America. In 2017, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, recognizing her pivotal role in promoting engineering through public engagement initiatives.
