Biography

Prof. Eleftheria Zeggini works in the field of Translational Genomics, where her research leverages extensive biomedical data to translate insights into the genomic mechanisms of disease development and progression, ultimately aiming to shorten the pathway to translation and empower precision medicine. She develops and applies robust statistical and computational tools to integrate information obtained from deep molecular and genomic epidemiological approaches, addressing significant biomedical research challenges. Prof. Zeggini obtained her BSc in Biochemistry from UMIST and completed her PhD in Immunogenetics of Juvenile Arthritis at the University of Manchester. In 2004, she moved to the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford, and in 2008, she joined the Wellcome Sanger Institute as part of the Human Genetics Faculty. In 2018, she founded the Institute of Translational Genomics at the Helmholtz Zentrum München, and in 2020, she was appointed to the TUM Liesel Beckmann Distinguished Professorship in Translational Genomics at TUM.
