Biography

Elena Kaliberda is an Instructor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. She holds an MA in Journalism from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia, and an MA in European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies from the EURUS Institute at Carleton University, which she completed in 2015. In 2024, she earned her PhD in Communication from Carleton University. Her research focuses on community radio, forced migration, and the public sphere, particularly in the German context. She teaches various undergraduate courses, including Digital Skills in Media Studies, Introduction to Communication Practice, and Media Fandom, along with special topics courses in Community Radio. Prior to her role at Carleton, she taught courses such as Journalism Practice and Public Relations Economics Crisis Communications to both undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Kaliberda has authored several textbooks in the field of Public Relations, aimed at Bachelor’s and Master’s students, with editions issued between 2002 and 2012. She also has experience working with Russian media outlets, including a daily newspaper and a weekly supplement.
