Biography

Elena Lomonova is a Full Professor and Chair of Electromechanics and Power Electronics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research focuses on fundamental and applied studies enabling energy conversion through advanced methods and technologies in high-precision automotive and medical systems. Her work encompasses various aspects of advanced mechatronics, specifically within the fields of electromechanics and electromagnetics, including rotary electrical machines and drives, linear and planar actuation, as well as power conversion systems. Her methodology emphasizes a combination of theoretical knowledge and experimental verification of electromechanical systems. Lomonova completed her studies in Electromechanical Control Systems at the Moscow Aviation Institute. Following graduation with honors, she began her industrial career at the Research Development Company ‘Astrophysics’ in Moscow. She later joined the Electromechanical Control Systems Department at the same institution, focusing on research and education while engaging in various industrial projects. Lomonova obtained her PhD in 1993, concentrating on powertrain control systems for autonomous vehicles and multi-level power supply subsystems. In 1998, she moved to Delft University of Technology and later became a prominent figure at TU/e in 2000, culminating in her appointment as a full professor in March 2009. She has authored or co-authored over 250 scientific publications and holds more than 15 patents, while also receiving prestigious awards including the Nagamori Award in Japan and Lifetime Contributions to Magnetics Award in Cambridge, UK.
