Eleni Braat is an Associate Professor of Political History at Utrecht University, specializing in the history of intelligence, state secrecy, and related political tensions of the 20th century. Her research focuses on the organizational cultures of intelligence services, the interplay of memory, gender, political legitimacy, and democratization. She obtained her Ph.D. from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, in 2008 and has trained at the University of Amsterdam, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris. Currently, she is engaged in a research project titled 'Politics of State Secrecy: The Long Shadow of Authoritarianism Legitimacy and State Secrecy, 1945-2015,' which is funded by the Aspasia grant from the Dutch Research Council NWO, running from 2020 to 2027. As a member of the University Council at Utrecht University (2023-2027), she promotes the interests of employees and students to the executive board. Additionally, she collaborated with Ben de Jong, a retired professor from the University of Amsterdam, on a book project that explores research methods in intelligence history.
