Dr. Eleni Stroulia

Biography

Eleni Stroulia is a Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta. Her research primarily focuses on addressing industry-driven problems and utilizing AI machine-learning methods to improve and automate tasks. She has led flagship projects in health care, particularly the Smart Condo initiative, which aims to support individuals with chronic conditions in living independently longer while educating health science students to provide care for clients. Stroulia has held several prestigious positions, including the NSERC/AITF Industrial Research Chair in Service Systems Management at IBM and Director of the University of Alberta's AI4Society Signature Area. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including the McCalla professorship and the Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring. Additionally, she has supervised over 60 graduate students who have advanced into successful academic and industrial careers. Stroulia has played significant leadership roles in various networks of excellence, including GRAND and AGE-WELL, and has been recognized with a UofA Teaching Unit Award for her contributions to education.
