Biography

Eleni Toumpanaki is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol. She received her Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, where she graduated with a University medal, specializing in Structures and Earthquake Engineering. Following this, she completed an MSc in Structural Steel Design for Sustainable Development at Imperial College London, and a PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Cambridge, supported by an Onassis Foundation scholarship. Eleni's professional experience includes working as a Structural Engineer at Foster + Partners and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Her research focuses on the optimized use of structural materials, specifically timber and composite materials, to enhance sustainability, durability, and resilience in infrastructure. Eleni is involved in multiple research projects related to sustainability, including innovative design methodologies and the circular economy of timber buildings. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
