Biography

Eleonora Benecchi is a lecturer and researcher at Università della Svizzera italiana, focusing on Internet fandom, participatory culture, and media consumption among young generations. She has published scholarly articles in top-tier journals such as Media Culture Society and New Media Society and authored the book 'Di chi è questa storia', which examines the phenomenon of Internet fandom from a cultural and economic perspective. In 2012, she was responsible for the Italian part of the national research project MIKE JAMES, analyzing the relationship between young people and media. She collaborated with ZHAW University of Lausanne on an ethnographic study of young people's interactions with news, emphasizing the online dimension. Currently, she is involved in a Swiss National Fund project directed by Gabriele Balbi that investigates the origins and spread of the World Wide Web. Benecchi teaches courses on Digital Cultures and Audiovisual Theory at both the undergraduate and master's levels, and has contributed to various research projects regarding gender representation in Italian television. Her PhD research, supervised by Prof. Giuseppe Richeri, focused on the relationships between producers and fans in the context of TV series production and reception.
