Biography

Eleonora (Nora) Lad, MD, PhD, is a clinician-scientist and retinal ophthalmologist dedicated to developing novel strategies for the early diagnosis and treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Dr. Lad specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of macular diseases, including AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular diseases. She is actively involved in clinical trials investigating innovative therapies for these conditions. Dr. Lad's research interests include exploring the role of neuroinflammation and abnormal protein aggregates in the pathogenesis of AMD, developing visual function tests for dry AMD, and utilizing novel retinal imaging biomarkers for early diagnosis of aging diseases, including AMD and Alzheimer's disease, often through artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. She collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of researchers from various fields, including Ophthalmology, Geriatrics, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Neurology. Dr. Lad is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including the VA Merit Award, the Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award from the National Eye Institute, and several research honors from organizations such as ARVO and the Heed Foundation.
