Biography

Elías Cisneros is a research fellow specializing in Environmental Economics at the University of Texas at Austin. His interests include Political Economy, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, and Conflict Economics. He combines spatial data with biophysical conditions and market political shocks to investigate human behavior and the transformation of landscapes. His research utilizes high-resolution, high-frequency remote sensing data to examine forest loss, fires, and the effects of geo-coded policies on economic dynamics. Elías earned his economics diploma from the University of Freiburg in 2012 and has worked as a research assistant in the Center for Development Research at the University of Bonn (2012-2015) and at the Institute for Food and Resource Economics (2015-2017). He received his doctoral degree in 2017 from the University of Göttingen, where he joined the Chair of International Economic Policy in 2018. In 2021, he began leading a project funded by the EU entitled 'From Human to Planetary Health: Global Land-Use Impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic'.
