Biography

Elies van Sliedregt is a Professor of International & Comparative Criminal Law at Tilburg University. He previously held a professorship in Criminal Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he served as Dean of the Faculty from 2011 to 2015. He has been a visiting fellow at various prestigious institutions including the University of Leeds, Cambridge, Oxford, and the University of Bologna. Additionally, he was a Holding Redlich Fellow at the Castan Center for Human Rights at Monash University in Melbourne in 2015, and was appointed as a fellow at McLaughlin College, York University, Canada, in 2018. Van Sliedregt is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and serves on the Governing Board of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL). His research interests encompass comparative principles of criminal law, legal pluralism, the European Arrest Warrant, terrorism, and refugee exclusion. His teaching covers Dutch criminal law, criminal procedure, international criminal law, and comparative criminal law.
