Elihu Rubin is the Henry Hart Rice Associate Professor of Architecture and Urban Studies at Yale School of Architecture, with a secondary appointment in American Studies. His work bridges urban disciplines, focusing on built environments of nineteenth and twentieth-century cities, history and theory of city planning, urban geography and cultural landscape, transportation and mobility, architectural preservation, heritage planning, and the social life of urban space. Rubin holds a PhD in History of Architecture and Urbanism, a Master of City Planning degree with a focus on transportation from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale University. He is the author of 'Insuring the City: Prudential Center and the Postwar Urban Landscape' (Yale University Press, 2012), which received book awards from the Urban History Association and the Society for American City and Regional Planning History. Rubin is also a co-founder of the documentary film company American Beat, which produced a trilogy of films on the social history and cultural landscapes of New Haven. At Yale, Rubin has initiated various community-based, student-driven research projects, such as Interactive Crown Street and the New Haven Building Archive.
