Dr. Elijah Anderson

Biography

Elijah Anderson is the Sterling Professor of Sociology and of Black Studies at Yale University. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University in 1976. His research interests include Urban Inequality, Ethnography, Cultural Sociology, Social Deviance, and Race Relations. Anderson has published extensively, including notable works such as 'Black White Space: Enduring Impact Color Everyday Life' and 'Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race Civility Everyday Life.' He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the 2021 Stockholm Prize in Criminology and the 2018 W.E.B. Du Bois Career Distinguished Scholarship Award. Anderson has served on the boards of various professional organizations and has held editorial positions in leading journals. His work often examines the complexities of race and social structures in urban environments, making significant contributions to the understanding of societal interactions. Additionally, he has acted as a consultant for government agencies and has been involved in various community engagement initiatives.
