Biography

Elisa Cavatorta is a Reader in Economics and Vice Dean (International) at King's College London. She holds a PhD in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London. Prior to joining King's, she worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Her research primarily focuses on the study of conflict, the formation of individual preferences and beliefs, and the impact evaluation of policy interventions. Notably, she explores how living in violent contexts shapes people’s preferences and beliefs, the factors that drive their ability to negotiate and cooperate, and the conditions under which interventions can enhance cooperation and improve socio-psychological well-being. Cavatorta employs a variety of methodologies in her work, including lab and field experiments, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and large-scale surveys. Her regional expertise is especially concentrated in the Middle East.
