Biography

Elisabeth Reynolds is a Professor of Practice at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in systems innovation, manufacturing, and industrial competitiveness. Her recent research focuses on the intersection of digital technology adoption and industrial decarbonization, as well as policies aimed at scaling innovative companies. In the fall of 2023, she co-led a seminar on Priority Technologies alongside Professor Simon Johnson, discussing critical areas relating to U.S. national economic security and innovation policy. Notably, she served as Special Assistant to President Biden on the National Economic Council, where she contributed to the national manufacturing strategy and supply chain resilience initiatives. Previously, she was the Executive Director of the MIT Industrial Performance Center, where she engaged in interdisciplinary research on industrial transformation. Reynolds co-led the MIT Task Force on the Work of the Future, which explored the impact of emerging technologies on the workforce. She is also engaged with multiple boards and advisory projects related to manufacturing and economic development. She holds a B.A. in Government from Harvard, a Master’s in Economics from the University of Montreal, and a Ph.D. from MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
