Biography

Elisabeth Ullmann conducts research in mathematical methods for uncertainty quantification, utilizing tools from numerical analysis, data science, and computational science engineering. Her work aims at the design and analysis of efficient algorithms and estimators for partial differential equations with random coefficients. Currently, she focuses on multilevel estimators, Bayesian inverse problems, and rare events. Ullmann completed her studies in Applied Mathematics at the Technical University of Bergakademie Freiberg and obtained her doctorate in 2008 from Freiberg. After her doctorate, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the DFG priority program 'Extraction of Quantifiable Information from Complex Systems'. She was also a visiting research associate at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2009, and from 2011 to 2014 held a research associate position at the University of Bath in England and subsequently at the University of Hamburg. Ullmann joined the Technical University of Munich as an Assistant Professor in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021.
