Biography

Elise Fear received her B.A.Sc. degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 1995, and her Master of Applied Science and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria (Canada) in 1997 and 2001, respectively. She joined the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary in 2002 and currently serves as a Professor and Associate Head for Research. Dr. Fear has held the Alberta Innovates Technology Futures iCORE Strategic Chair in Multimodality Imaging Sensing from 2013-2017. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the IEEE Transactions Biomedical Engineering Outstanding Paper Award in 2007 and the Killam Annual Professorship in 2018. She co-founded Wave View Imaging in 2020, a company focused on commercializing medical microwave imaging, and has collaborated with various health institutions to develop innovative sensing solutions for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Fear is dedicated to promoting diversity within her research team and aims to create a supportive environment that enhances collaboration and innovation.
