Dr. Elise Laende

Biography

Elise Laende is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She holds an adjunct position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Queen’s University. Her research focuses on developing engineering solutions with a health emphasis, particularly in biomechanics and orthopaedic implants. She has extensive experience with markerless motion capture technology used to assess biomechanical factors through radiostereometric analysis (RSA), an imaging technique for measuring implant micromotion in total joint replacements. Her prior work in the industry and clinical research in the Orthopaedic Surgery department has informed her approach to designing tools that support clinicians in healthcare delivery. She is committed to advancing knowledge in biomedical engineering and enhancing patient outcomes through innovative research.
