Biography

Elise Muir is an esteemed academic and researcher specializing in European law. She currently serves as the Vice Dean for Research and Head of the Institute for European Law at KU Leuven. Her research contributions include leading the RESHUFFLE project, funded by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council, focusing on the constitutional implications of the evolving role of the European Union in the area of European fundamental rights legislation. Prior to her tenure at KU Leuven, Muir was an associate professor at the Faculty of Law at Maastricht University and also served as the extraordinary director of the Maastricht Centre for European Law. She has been a guest lecturer at Sciences Po Lille, the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation, and EDHEC-Espème Lille. During her time at Maastricht, she completed a research project on collective enforcement of EU non-economic law under the Veni program. Muir's scholarly work has garnered significant recognition, including the Edmond Hustinx Prize for Science in 2012. Her educational background includes degrees in Law from France and the United Kingdom, followed by postgraduate studies in European law at the College of Europe in Belgium. Muir has also been a visiting researcher at Columbia Law School, the European University Institute, and the Fondation pour l'innovation politique, and she completed her doctorate at the University of London under Professor Takis Tridimas. She actively participates in the university's research council and doctoral committee and is a member of the editorial board of the Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law and the European Council Studies.
