Dr. Elise Stephenson

Biography

Elise Stephenson is the Deputy Director at the Global Institute for Women's Leadership at the Australian National University. With a multi-award-winning background as a gender equality researcher, Elise's focus is on leadership and policy within the realms of gender, sexuality, and various sectors including space, diplomacy, and climate action. She has led significant studies on gender equality in the space sector, engaging with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs to contribute to landmark studies on global gender equality in this field. As a founding member of the Australian Space Diversity Alliance, she has advanced discussions on gender equality and diversity in space at notable conferences. Elise's academic accolades include the International Studies Association’s Bertha Lutz Prize for her book, 'Face Nation: Gendered Institutions in International Affairs', and recognition as a Fulbright Scholar. Additionally, her international experience spans several countries including the United States and Japan, enriching her expertise in public diplomacy and national security. She has also contributed to policy innovation through her work at Griffith University and received numerous academic honors throughout her studies. Elise continues to lead research engagements to foster women's leadership and inclusion practices in Australia and beyond.
