Elizabeth (Lisa) Alexandrin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba. She holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from McGill University (2006), a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Toronto (1993), and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Boston University (1993). Her research interests encompass Islamic intellectual history, Sufism, Ismaili thought, body histories, and visual piety. Over the years, Alexandrin has received several awards, including an Explore SSHRC/University of Manitoba internal research grant in 2021-2022 and an SSHRC Insight Development Grant as a co-investigator between 2018 and 2022. She has also obtained a standard research grant from SSHRC for her project on the Qur’an and Sufi experiences. Alongside her academic pursuits, she is dedicated to teaching graduate students and undergraduate courses on topics such as religion, food, and Islamic philosophy.
