Biography

Elizabeth S. Burnside, MD, MPH, is a Professor in the Department of Radiology and Senior Associate Dean at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She specializes in breast imaging and is the Executive Co-Director of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Burnside's research interests lie at the intersection of public health, computer science, and medical training, focusing on the development and use of computational methods to enhance decision-making in breast imaging. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications, she has secured continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health since 2006. Dr. Burnside has previously served as the Vice Chair of Research and the Vice Chair of Health Services and Outcomes in the UW Department of Radiology, and she was recently honored with the 2023 Advancing Women in Medicine Science Award from UW’s Group on Women in Medicine and Science. In 2024, she will receive the prestigious RSNA gold medal, an accolade awarded to only 22 women since its inception in 1919. Dr. Burnside is also engaged in various leadership programs to enhance professional development in the field of medicine.
