Dr. Elizabeth Cameron

Biography

Elizabeth Cameron is a Professor of Practice and Senior Advisor at the Pandemic Center within the Brown University School of Public Health. A global leader in health security and biodefense, Cameron has decades of experience in government and academia. She previously served as a Senior Fellow at the Miller Center at the University of Virginia and held critical roles in the U.S. government's National Security Council. Cameron played a pivotal role in establishing the NSC Directorate for Global Health Security & Biodefense and was instrumental in overseeing the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her extensive work includes collaboration with the Departments of State and Defense, as well as the Nuclear Threat Initiative, where she focused on countering biological threats and enhancing global health security. Cameron holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has published various articles addressing health security policies and pandemic preparedness. Her research interests center on biological threat preparedness, global health security, and biosafety.
