Elizabeth Deakin is Professor Emerita in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, and an affiliated faculty member of the Energy Resources Group and the Master of Urban Design group. She previously served as the Director of the University of California Transportation Research Center from 1998 to 2008 and co-director of the UC Berkeley Global Metropolitan Studies Initiative from 2005 to 2008. Her research concentrates on the intersections of transportation and land use policy, with a special emphasis on environmental impacts. Appointed to multiple government posts, she has provided guidance to mayors, city council members, and transit board members, and has been a member of several committees and panels for the Transportation Research Board. Additionally, she is an editor for the journal Transportation Policy and serves on the editorial board of four journals. She is also a Fellow of the Urban Land Institute.
