Biography

Elizabeth Goodyear-Grant is a Professor in the Department of Political Studies at Queen’s University and the Director of the Canadian Opinion Research Archive (CORA). She focuses on Canadian politics with particular interests in electoral politics, voting behaviour, public opinion, the news media, and the political representation of women. Her book, "Gendered News: Media Coverage of Electoral Politics in Canada" (2013, UBC Press), received the Pierre Savard Award from the International Council for Canadian Studies in 2016 and was shortlisted for the Donald Smiley Prize from the Canadian Political Science Association in 2014. Goodyear-Grant's extensive research examines how different aspects of news coverage affect female candidates’ electoral prospects and political careers, highlighting the persistent under-representation of women in politics. She has published in several peer-reviewed journals and her work spans studies of political behaviour, representational attitudes, and the impact of media on public perception. At Queen's, she teaches courses related to Canadian politics, campaigns, women’s political engagement, and the role of gender in politics. Her supervisory interests include Canadian comparative projects on gender representation and media politics, particularly regarding access to electoral office for women.
