Professor Emerita Elizabeth Gould joined the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto in 2005. She teaches philosophically based courses in music education and serves as a liaison to the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. Previously, she has been part of the music faculties at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Boise State University. Her research interests encompass gender, sexuality, the context of feminisms, and queer theory. In addition to serving as the lead editor of the book 'Exploring Social Justice: Music Education Matters' (2009), Gould has contributed chapters to works such as 'Musicking Deleuze: Methodological Experiments in Music Sound Studies' (forthcoming), 'Oxford Handbook of Social Justice in Music Education' (2015), 'Education Politics of Becoming' (2014), and 'Critical Perspectives on Canadian Music Education' (2012). She has published articles in journals including the Philosophy of Music Education Review, Music Education Research, and Women and Music: Journal of Gender and Culture. Her work has also featured curatorial projects like Queer Americana (2011), under the media res: media commons project. Gould has held leadership roles in organizations such as the International Society for Philosophy of Music Education and has organized conferences on themes of engagement and exclusion in music and education. Currently, she is finishing a book project titled 'Queer Subjectivities: Music Lives Worth Living.'
