Biography

Elizabeth Halpenny is a Professor at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation. She holds a PhD in Recreation Leisure Studies from the University of Waterloo and has a strong academic background with a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University and a Bachelor's degree in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University. Before joining academia, Halpenny worked with the International Ecotourism Society, where she coordinated research workshops and assisted in developing ecotourism projects globally. She actively supervises doctoral and master’s students, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses that cover topics related to marketing in sport and tourism, as well as the management of parks and protected areas.
