Dr. Elizabeth Horn

Biography

Elizabeth Horn is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University, specializing in theatre for young audiences and creative drama. She joined the faculty in 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous role as associate professor at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Her creative scholarship focuses on personal narrative, devised theatre, and applied theatre, particularly in contexts of arts and wellness. At UCF, she taught in the MFA Theatre for Young Audiences program and supervised various undergraduate courses in script analysis, creative drama, and devising theatre. Recognized for her innovative teaching methods, Elizabeth has received multiple awards including the Barbara Truman Award for Blended Teaching. Her directing and teaching credits span renowned institutions, and she has initiated several applied theatre projects emphasizing mental health and engagement with pediatric patients. An accomplished playwright, her works have been featured by YouthPLAYS, and she is the author of "Activated Script Analysis" (Routledge, 2023), which examines ensemble-based play and script analysis methodologies. Elizabeth has presented her research broadly at national and international conferences, contributing to discussions on applied theatre, diversity, and body image.
